If you're dunk - it doesn't count! |

Here's another classic rant that you may know and love... Many people seem to be operating under the assumption that if you are drunk you need no longer be held accountable for your actions. There are those that seek to be absolved of all responsibility because of the evil ALCOHOL. Despite a mind-blowing ruling a few years back by the supreme court of Canada which found a man not guilty of rape because he was drunk (it was an argument of the finer points of consent and mind-numbingly boring unless that sort of thing is your bag), the courts don't seem to share this opinion. Try arguing your way out of a DUI charge by claiming "but your honour... I was drunk". If it's criminal - it doesn't matter what you were on. So why is it that so many rational people easily forgive bad behaviour when liquor is involved? Well you know what?... sometimes it does count, but people don't care until it's too late. I've seen it happen. Try telling a disease that you were drunk so it's okay. I can't wait until some lawyer sucessfully agrues reckless endangerment or even gross negligence based on unprotected sex. What? you think that people should be protected from their own stupidity? How do you think people die? Usually as the result of something they could have avoided. It's social Darwinism people - get with the program. Hell, I have a pretty good Idea what's likely get me... but you don't see me stopping now, do you? If it happens - I deserve it. At least I'll see it coming. On the lighter side... some crazy laws have been made concerning liquor. Is that a coherent rant? Probably not. Drink but don't be stupid. (rant ends) UPDATE :Thursday, April 25 / 2002 - Dr. Jest just passed along URL for a webiste with lots of information on AIDS. You can find it at http://www.duesberg.com and it's far better than the one I gave you a while back. |
